Chitting simply means encouraging the seed potatoes to sprout before planting. The reasons to chit your potatoes is so you can achieve a heavier crop.Stand the blunt end of the potato up in a egg box or add some seed potatoes into a seed tray always make sure that you place them in natural light i.e. a window sill and wait until the shoots become short and stumpy that is when they are ready to be planted out, this process can take up to 6 weeks.
