Yesterday we went to St Michael's Community Centre on Belgrave Road for this year's Happy New You event organised by Wheel Meet Again and South Central Community Transport.
It was fantastic to talk to over 100 people about ways they could save energy, reduce waste and increase recycling. Many people picked up some advice on how to get started DIY draught-proofing their homes as well as freebies to help them reduce waste in the kitchen and make sure they recycle correctly in their homes.
We brought along a pan of minestrone soup which was homemade by one of our volunteers with ingredients from our partners at the L8 Superstore on Lodge Lane. It went down a treat and everyone took away recipe cards so they could have a try at making it themselves - and on a budget too!
Lots of people filled in some short surveys to be entered into a drawer to win one of our Winter Warmer Hampers. The winner was local lady Mrs Blophy and we'll be keeping in touch to see how the items she won have made a difference to how warm she's feeling at home.
It was a pleasure to be involved in such a busy and popular event for older people in the area and we look forward to working with Wheel Meet Again in future on some community gardens amongst other things!
