Large amounts of recycling being sent to landfill in Liverpool


Huge mounds of plastic bottles, cans and paper are going to landfill in Liverpool because hundreds of city centre residents have no recycling facilities.

Councillor Steve Munby, cabinet member for Neighbourhoods and Waste Services, committed to address the lack of recycling facilities in city centre apartment blocks after the Sunday ECHO raised the problem with him.

He said: "Promoting an increase in recycling is one of our top priorities. It is important if we want to save the planet to take it down to hard cash. Every 5% increase in recycling saves us about £1m in disposal costs."
